The embedded Linux on the Asus P5E3 Deluxe WiFi-AP @n motherboard has just had its source code released and bit-tech has talked to Asus and the guys that make it to find out what they expect this will mean for future products. Will the dev community jump on board? What about boards that play music and video and boot in 2 seconds?

Wal-Mart is selling a desktop computer for $199 running Linux GOS– a variant of the popular Ubuntu but with lots of optimization for Google products.

Dell to ship Ubuntu 7.10 on desktops and laptops

Ubuntu 7.10 arrives Oct. 18, and not long after that Dell will start shipping that version of the Ubuntu Linux desktop on its laptops and desktops. “We will offer Ubuntu 7.10 preinstalled on our systems soon,” said Anne Camden of Dell corporate communications, in an e-mail interview. “For customers who are interested in updating their existing Ubuntu systems, we advise them to visit the Ubuntu 7.10 page on our wiki, which will go live [Oct. 18] after the official launch.”

An Inside Look at the New Gateway One

I am banging out this column on an exquisite, piano-black all-in-one desktop PC. The guts of this glossy computer are crammed inside a trim and easily tilted 19-inch wide-screen flat-panel LCD monitor. The keyboard and mouse are wireless. The invisible stereo speaker is behind an acrylic front panel. A slot-loading DVD burner is on the right; disk ejection is handled by pressing the keyboard. Only a single power cable emerges from the rear bottom of the machine.

Must be something Steve Jobs cooked up, right? Not quite.

I’ve been testing the brand-new Gateway One, the latest all-in-one computer from the country’s No. 3 PC company. The machines will become available at Gateway.com and Best Buy later this month.

ASUS Motherboard Ships With Embedded Linux, Web Browser

The good folks over at ASUS have sent over the P5E3 Deluxe, which is based upon Intel’s new X38 Chipset and continues in the usual ASUS fashion of pushing new (and often unexpected) innovations onto the motherboard. Without spoiling the review of this motherboard that will be published shortly, the ASUS P5E3 Deluxe is one of the most innovative motherboards we have seen to date and it packs one very exciting and unusual feature.
